Happy New Year! Is anyone else shocked that it is already 2 0 1 9!
Who else doesn’t do “resolutions”? If you have known me for a while you will know I start every single Monday with a fresh start. What an amazing way to begin new. It really has changed my life. Many years ago, I worked with someone who every single Monday came into the office and used every adjective you could think of to describe her Monday. After a few weeks, I actually became very sad for her. I thought, wow, is her life really that bad? Then her negativity began subconsciously rubbing off on me. The first time I said out loud, “Monday, YUCK!”. Something happened inside. I knew from that moment I had to change my thinking, or I would quickly go down the negativity road and I would bring on myself a life I didn’t enjoy.
With that being said, one thing I do E N J O Y very much is goal setting…and spreadsheets hee, hee. If I can combine the two – wowza! It is as if my heart is jumping with joy. Nerdy, right? That’s okay.
Let’s get into the meat of today’s post.
G O A L S E T T I N G
Whenever you start thinking about what you want to achieve, set a goal. There are some easy peasy, as my three old would say, steps to ensure success.
Use the S.M.A.R.T. method and you really can’t fail!
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Time-bound
I like to leave my goals sheet overview on my desk. I can see it each morning when I sit down with my cuppa coffee and review the day ahead. I know others who keep their list in their planner, on their bathroom mirror, etc. Put it wherever YOU will see it every. single. day. This really is key
Are you good at following through by yourself or do you need an accountability partner? I am somewhere in the middle. I really do not have close friends nearby to sit with weekly or monthly; therefore, I like to use online versions of accountability – my blog, Facebook Groups, my YouTube videos, etc. Just figure out what works for you!
“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” ~Chinese Proverb
Don’t be hard on yourself and give yourself lots of grace, especially in the beginning. What is it that they say 21 days to make a habit! You will not be perfect on all goals all the time. Just keep going every day. Do not let one slip up drag you all the way back to the beginning. You got this! I promise.
I would set the four following categories:
Daily Goals
Weekly Goals
Monthly Goals
Long-Term Goals
I think each category title is pretty self-explanatory. If you are having trouble feel free to comment or email me. I love helping others set their goals and cheer them on!
Until next time.
Joy in the journey,
Jess
