FOLLOW THE KETO BRICKROAD

So, let’s start at the beginning, shall we. You may want to grab a beverage and get comfy.

I am 43 years old and in the above average healthy range for my age. To be honest, I do not really do anything specific. Just what I call good ol’ common sense.

The one thing that holds me back from being in the exceptional range is S-U-G-A-R. Yep, you read that right, sugar. I know, I know. Cut back they say, eat sugar-free they say (OMG NO! This is wayyyy worse than consuming table sugar.), it’s okay because you are not overweight, etc. The list of what others will tell goes on and on and on…ya know, like the song that never ends!

I am noticing the way I feel after consuming sugar. I am very in tune with my body and it is clearly telling me to back off! So, I am listening. Here are the deets - I drink two 8oz mugs of coffee daily. One in the morning and mid-day. On days I work from home, I may sip on coffee for a majority of the day. I use a lot of sugar in my coffee. I use 6 teaspoons per mug of coffee. That is a lot of sugar! Now add in orange juice (even though it is freshly squeezed and organic, it is still a form of sugar), fresh fruits (again, I love my fresh fruit), and then any other random carbohydrates I may eat (typically not many). Overall you can see I take in way more sugar than a normal person should. Have you ever researched the effects of sugar and how a "sugar addiction" is basically the same as a "street drug addiction"? The same parts of the brain are affected. In fact, sugar can be harder to get off of than heroin! Let that sink in for a minute. I'll wait. Okay, so you can clearly see why, before I am a "sugar addict" that I need to nip it in the bud.

After MUCH, I mean mucho research I have decided to begin a ketogenic lifestyle.

Now for the 5 w’s.

Who – well for me of course!

What – ketogenic eating plan (I HATE saying DIET, it sounds so temporary and as if you are denying your body something!)

When – now, I began Friday, February 9, 2018. I have a doctor appointment at the end of the month to do a full physical with bloodwork, etc. I am anxious to see the results.

Where – umm, here ßokay, I could not think of anything entertaining to put here ha ha.

Why – reason #1 – to get my body glucose regulated. There are so many other benefits that I will get just by eating this way.

What is a ketogenic eating plan? You can look to Google for that answer. I think people make it more difficult than what it is. Basically, it is high fat (OMG- doesn’t fat make you fat? Uh, no way, as my 3-year-old would say.), moderate protein (yes you can eat meat, vegetarian, vegan, or any other platform you feel is best for you), and low carb. The easy math is 75/20/5. That is 75% from healthy fats (we are not talking a fast food hot dog people), 20% protein, and 5% good carbs (like veggies, not potato chips). Please be careful when jumping onto the interwebs to research. Obviously, if you feel a fast food hot dog with no bun is a smart choice, I am certain you will find someone on the internet that agrees with you. Use common sense and the brain you were given. Obviously, I do not believe that would be a legit ketogenic meal option.

Beverages – I will drink Bulletproof Coffee (as in the brand by Dave Asprey. I have been a huge believer for many years), water, and Pruvit Ketone supplement (either with water, almond milk, or a bit of both depending on the flavor).

Exercise – I personally am following the logic of daily exercise. Now, because I am intaking a lot more fat, I feel that following a weightlifting based program to be what is right for me. So, I will be doing every other day weight training, every other day very minimal cardio (like walking around my neighborhood), and one day a week to let my body rest.

Supplements - In researching the keto lifestyle, I came across a company called Pruvit. Their whole business revolves around exogenous ketones. They offer something called “the experience”. You can choose a 5 or 10-day experience, which is a fancy way of saying – “hey, try before you buy” …well sort of (you do have to buy the sample package). You choose 5 or 10 days and a Pruvit Promoter will send you a 5 or 10-day supply (one of each flavor), so you can try them all before committing to a larger quantity of one specific flavor. Anyway, enough of that…I sound like a salesman and I do not even sell the stuff!

Back to what I was saying…supplements. I will be adding the following supplements:
  • ·         Pruvit Ketones
  • ·         Magnesium
  • ·         Potassium
  • ·         Electrolyte drops

I will be keeping a log – not sure if I will post daily, weekly, or somewhere in between of my thoughts and feelings over the next month (maybe longer) and I will be doing a review of each Pruvit product – WITH HONEST thoughts, again, I do not sell this stuff and I purchased the product with my own money.

Until next time.
