MY FACEBOOK FAST & WHAT I LEARNED

May 21st or 23rd was my last day on Facebook. I honestly do not remember the exact date, as it was unplanned.

I have had one heck of 2018. Multiple friends have passed away, business has been on-fire = overwhelming at times, and personal life, while not “bad” in the traditional sense, it has been very exhausting. Throw in some SAD for an extra punch to the gut and then no downtime planned…I just could not see the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

I was approaching my 44th birthday on June 1st and decided it was time to start removing things in my life that were causing unnecessary pressure. YES, I am stating social media felt like pressure. Why? I honestly can not answer that question, but it did feel that way. One thing that I noticed was months ago, sometime in the last quarter of 2017 I removed Facebook from my iPhone, then around January, I removed Facebook Messenger (again) from my phone. Can we just pause and let it soak in how much I loathe Facebook Messenger? This concept apparently makes people ANGRY! Yes, you heard me right. If I didn’t respond to a comment…real frustrating would brew in some people and then let the private messages begin…AND then get sooooo upset when I didn’t reply to their message in .02 seconds of them sending it…HOLY FREAKING COW! Now keep in mind NOTHING you send over a private message is an emergency…or is that just me? An emergency warrants a pick-up-the-phone and call me…doesn't it? Or am I just that ol’ fashioned? Regardless it was a MAJOR source of frustration. I then (again, months ago) uninstalled Facebook Messenger (yes, you can do this), BUT…apparently people can send you messages, they just sit there and rot as unread messages on the sender’s end…which then they end up sending even MORE messages! I posted NUMEROUS times on my wall that I DO NOT USE MESSENGER, PLEASE DO NOT MESSAGE ME THERE. The messages will not be read…email, text, or call me. Clearly no one reads my posts, or they choose not to absorb what I write, or they do not think it applies to their messages. I assume no one really reads what I share. Womp, womp, womp…

That was a very long explanation on why I woke up one day and decided not to log into Facebook and then I woke up the next day and the next day. As of today, it has been 36 or 38 days since I have even had a sneak peek on to the ol’ Facebook. The hardest week was when I would talk to people (yes, I still verbally communicate with others) about a photo my son posted where he looked apparently really handsome (perhaps good genes, hee hee). I wanted sooooooo freaking bad to see what they were talking about, but I didn’t give in. And I still haven’t. The boy needs Instagram, just sayin’.

With all of that, I survived. I am still here. My life continues. Nothing bad to report.
Will I ever go back to Facebook? Of course. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next year…I have no idea. Do I miss seeing the photos others post of their dogs, cats, and children – yep. Do I miss the art community that only shares on FB – yep. Do I hope everyone welcomes me back when I pop in and say “heyyyyy!” – I sure hope so. I do genuinely miss you guys. I love seeing the POSITIVE things people share. We are all so busy or live far away and it is a great way to “keep in touch”. I really do enjoy the Facebook community and have made many genuine friends that I would never have met in real life.

All in all, if you need a social media break, just do it. It will all be there when you are ready to come back.

I love all y’all and I really do hope you read this with my full sense of humor and seriousness at the same time. Sometimes I am the sarcasm Queen and other times I can’t crack a giggle if my life depended on it. I blame it on being a Gemini.

Until next time.

PRUVIT PRODUCT REVIEW #3 - KETO//OS® 2.1 Orange Dream

I filled my 24oz shaker bottle with 16 oz of water, filled it to the 24 oz mark with ice, and added ½ packet. Okay y’all. Have you ever had an orange creamsicle? I swear this flavor tastes EXACTLY like one! I had read reviews of others saying the same thing, but usually, when people say it, it isn’t true…for me at least. No, this was delicious. I liked it as much as I did the Raspberry Lemonade from yesterday.

Honest – I am pretty sure I will order this flavor, so I can have variety and not drink the same flavor every single day.

I give this 5 STARS for sure!

Come back tomrrow for review #5!

What did I notice –
Another day of great energy.

PRUVIT PRODUCT REVIEW #2 - KETO//KREME [FFT]

If you like cream in your coffee, you may just love this option. I wanted to so bad, but it isn’t suiting my palate. Full Disclosure I am really super bummed about this - I waited about 8 days to try this product anticipating so much joy it would bring to my morning routine. It contains stevia (I didn’t realize) and I absolutely cannot under any terms appreciate the flavor of stevia. I have tried many brands, quantity, etc. and I can honestly say I loathe the flavor. I’m not saying this isn’t a great product, just the flavor doesn’t suit my desire.

I am going to try it again and make a "hot chocolate" version. I will sahre those details later.

Come back tomorrow for review #3!

MY KETO JOURNEY - DAY 2

I did intermittent fasting from 8:15pm – about 10:30am

Breakfast –  3 pieces - artisan Italian style meats and fresh mozzarella

Dinner – 1 piece - artisan Italian style meats and fresh mozzarella
Snacks

Fiber 1g
Fat 116g/83g
Protein 39g/65g

Exercise – I didn’t do anything.

Pruvit product of the dayRaspberry Lemonade Max – I filled my 24oz shaker bottle with 16 oz of water, filled it to the 24 oz mark with ice, and added ½ packet. HOLY FREAKING MOLY this stuff is amazing with a capital A!

I chose this flavor first, so I could “get it out of the way”. I do not like anything raspberry.
This tastes like liquid cotton candy. The way I mixed it was PERFECT. If I had to drink this every day, I would not complain at all.

Honest – I went ahead (keep in mind I have been on this stuff for ONE DAY) and I ordered a shipment of this flavor on Saturday night…and set it up on auto-ship. I DO NOT want to be without this product.

What did I notice –

  • An insane amount of REAL energy, I didn’t have the crash feeling even once.
  • No headache. I had one prior to drinking this stuff and within 15 minutes my headache stopped.
  • Body temp – I am usually cold all day, spring, summer, autumn, winter…doesn’t matter. I run cold. I noticed at the end of the day that I never once felt cold or uncomfortable. I even had on shoes with no socks and a t-shirt with jeans. I also sleep with a heating pad nightly. I didn’t need to. I slept in a short sleeve t-shirt and a pair of sleep shorts. I never felt cool or cold.
  • Sleep. I slept a solid 8 ½ hours. I woke up once and went right back to sleep. I woke up naturally the next morning and felt like putting on my sneakers and going for a walk. I didn’t because it was pouring down rain, but dang.
  • My brain felt turned on all day. I didn’t get the mid-day foggy brain.

All in all, today was a GREAT day! I am really hoping that every day hereafter is as fantastic.

See ya tomorrow!

Thoughts and feelings

Today was day one. I tried to eat what I thought made sense with no real plan. Just random items from the refrigerator and freezer. When my son moved out, he left random items in the freezer. It has just been sitting there, so figured I would try and use it.  I was mainly doing this to see if I would be way off in my thinking of how to balance my meals. I missed my 4pm coffee with sugar terribly. I was very uncomfortable and anxious. At one point I tried making a black coffee with stevia and it was disgusting. This added to my frustration. Thank goodness it was “Family Dinner” night and by having everyone over, it took my mind from the coffee. Y’all my brain wanting the sugar was real. All in all, I think day one ended okay. I don’t really have a whole lot to say about my thoughts and feelings. It honestly seemed like a regular day. Oh, and ummm, obviously I am not eating anywhere near a vegan diet. Don’t judge. I thought the fat from meats would help with the sugar detoxing. Much research shows it can help. That pretty much sums up day 1!

See you tomorrow!

FOLLOW THE KETO BRICKROAD

So, let’s start at the beginning, shall we. You may want to grab a beverage and get comfy.

I am 43 years old and in the above average healthy range for my age. To be honest, I do not really do anything specific. Just what I call good ol’ common sense.

The one thing that holds me back from being in the exceptional range is S-U-G-A-R. Yep, you read that right, sugar. I know, I know. Cut back they say, eat sugar-free they say (OMG NO! This is wayyyy worse than consuming table sugar.), it’s okay because you are not overweight, etc. The list of what others will tell goes on and on and on…ya know, like the song that never ends!

I am noticing the way I feel after consuming sugar. I am very in tune with my body and it is clearly telling me to back off! So, I am listening. Here are the deets - I drink two 8oz mugs of coffee daily. One in the morning and mid-day. On days I work from home, I may sip on coffee for a majority of the day. I use a lot of sugar in my coffee. I use 6 teaspoons per mug of coffee. That is a lot of sugar! Now add in orange juice (even though it is freshly squeezed and organic, it is still a form of sugar), fresh fruits (again, I love my fresh fruit), and then any other random carbohydrates I may eat (typically not many). Overall you can see I take in way more sugar than a normal person should. Have you ever researched the effects of sugar and how a "sugar addiction" is basically the same as a "street drug addiction"? The same parts of the brain are affected. In fact, sugar can be harder to get off of than heroin! Let that sink in for a minute. I'll wait. Okay, so you can clearly see why, before I am a "sugar addict" that I need to nip it in the bud.

After MUCH, I mean mucho research I have decided to begin a ketogenic lifestyle.

Now for the 5 w’s.

Who – well for me of course!

What – ketogenic eating plan (I HATE saying DIET, it sounds so temporary and as if you are denying your body something!)

When – now, I began Friday, February 9, 2018. I have a doctor appointment at the end of the month to do a full physical with bloodwork, etc. I am anxious to see the results.

Where – umm, here ßokay, I could not think of anything entertaining to put here ha ha.

Why – reason #1 – to get my body glucose regulated. There are so many other benefits that I will get just by eating this way.

What is a ketogenic eating plan? You can look to Google for that answer. I think people make it more difficult than what it is. Basically, it is high fat (OMG- doesn’t fat make you fat? Uh, no way, as my 3-year-old would say.), moderate protein (yes you can eat meat, vegetarian, vegan, or any other platform you feel is best for you), and low carb. The easy math is 75/20/5. That is 75% from healthy fats (we are not talking a fast food hot dog people), 20% protein, and 5% good carbs (like veggies, not potato chips). Please be careful when jumping onto the interwebs to research. Obviously, if you feel a fast food hot dog with no bun is a smart choice, I am certain you will find someone on the internet that agrees with you. Use common sense and the brain you were given. Obviously, I do not believe that would be a legit ketogenic meal option.

Beverages – I will drink Bulletproof Coffee (as in the brand by Dave Asprey. I have been a huge believer for many years), water, and Pruvit Ketone supplement (either with water, almond milk, or a bit of both depending on the flavor).

Exercise – I personally am following the logic of daily exercise. Now, because I am intaking a lot more fat, I feel that following a weightlifting based program to be what is right for me. So, I will be doing every other day weight training, every other day very minimal cardio (like walking around my neighborhood), and one day a week to let my body rest.

Supplements - In researching the keto lifestyle, I came across a company called Pruvit. Their whole business revolves around exogenous ketones. They offer something called “the experience”. You can choose a 5 or 10-day experience, which is a fancy way of saying – “hey, try before you buy” …well sort of (you do have to buy the sample package). You choose 5 or 10 days and a Pruvit Promoter will send you a 5 or 10-day supply (one of each flavor), so you can try them all before committing to a larger quantity of one specific flavor. Anyway, enough of that…I sound like a salesman and I do not even sell the stuff!

Back to what I was saying…supplements. I will be adding the following supplements:
  • ·         Pruvit Ketones
  • ·         Magnesium
  • ·         Potassium
  • ·         Electrolyte drops

I will be keeping a log – not sure if I will post daily, weekly, or somewhere in between of my thoughts and feelings over the next month (maybe longer) and I will be doing a review of each Pruvit product – WITH HONEST thoughts, again, I do not sell this stuff and I purchased the product with my own money.

Until next time.

HELLO 2018

Hello! A big Happy New Year to each of you!!

I wanted to take time today to say hi. A genuine, sincere, glad you are here with me hello.
My original plan was to sit on my momma’s back porch in one of her comfy rocking chairs, wearing a snuggly sweater, sipping on a hot cup of coffee and recording a video – the first one for 2018. As you can see that DID NOT HAPPEN. Can we say Artic Blast of The South?!?! It was a whopping 19 degrees when I was ready to head outside. Even though her porch is covered and screened in, it was still way to cold to even try and keep my thoughts on point. So, this will have to suffice. To be honest, I am bummed. I really wanted to talk to y’all today.

Okay, so I must ask, with it being New Year’s Day and all – Do you make New Year Resolutions, enter the new year with a plan, have a word or theme of the year, or any of the other things people do come January 1st?

I do. I do a yearly Vision Board and I have a Word of the Year. I have completed a vision board for as long as I can remember – all the way back into my elementary age years. I first heard of and began embracing a word of the year, hmmm…about five years ago now…maybe six. I would have to go back and check to be 100% accurate. I have added a third element to my upcoming year. The church I attend offers mass on Wednesday evenings. I just recently began attending these services and have enjoyed them tremendously (more about that later). It is during this time that the different Saints are expanded upon. I want to complete a special piece of artwork for each saint.

Sometime in January I am hosting another Vision Board Making Class. If you are close by, come join us. Every year we have the best time setting intentions and making life goals together! All the information will be over on Facebook.

So, wanna know what my word of the year is for 2018? Huh, do ya?

B-A-L-A-N-C-E

Yep, you read it right. My word for the year is BALANCE.

What exactly do I mean when I say, balance.

I need, want and desire balance in all areas of my life.

I can easily become extreme in whatever part of my life I am in now – workaholic, too much parenting (yes, it is possible), too focused on housekeeping, etc. The list goes on and on. I want to find balance and increase the joy I have for life.

In all the areas of my life, I do have joy. But, I want to focus more on being balanced all around. I don’t want the feeling that I am sacrificing being good in one area to feel like I am slacking in another area. I know where I am weak and where I am strong. I want to be more balanced. I want to feel like no area is falling behind, while another area is excelling.

I believe bringing balance into my life will help with –

  • how I tackle my to-do list
  • how I nourish relationships with others
  • how I respond to others
  • the way I feel about myself
  • lessen anxiety and OCD tendencies
  • and just feel good at the end of the day knowing I gave each area 100%.

So, raise your cup of tea, coffee or whatever you are drinking and cheers to practicing balance this upcoming year!

If you have a word or theme of the year, I would love to hear about it. Drop a comment below or chit chat with us over on Facebook.

Wishing you 12 months of success, 52 weeks of laughter, 365 days of fun, 8760 hours of joy, 525600 minutes of good luck and 31536000 seconds of happiness.

Until next time.
