12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS - DAY 6

Sixth Day – December 30th – Joy
Remember the Poor
Psalm 20 • John 7:53 – 8:7

Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Come back tomorrow for day seven.

Until next time.

12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS - DAYS 1-5

Wow am I late with the 12 Days of Christmas!
Good thing Christmas is a season that lasts until the Epiphany, January 6th!

Here is the catch up list from December 25th through today, December 29th.

First Day – December 25th – Love
The Nativity of Our Lord, Christmas Day
Psalm 98.1-6 • Matthew 1.18-25
O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we,
who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Second Day – December 26th – Forgiveness
 Feast of St. Stephen
Psalm 31 • Matthew 23:34-39
We give you thanks, O Lord of glory, for the example of the first martyr Stephen, who looked up to heaven and prayed for his persecutors to your Son Jesus Christ, who stands at your right hand; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Third Day – December 27th – Peace
Feast of St. John
Psalm 92 • 1 John 1:1-9 • John 21:19b-24
Shed upon your Church, O Lord, the brightness of your light, that we, being illumined by the teaching of
your apostle and evangelist John, may so walk in the light of your truth, that at length we may attain to the fullness of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Fourth Day – December 28th – Compassion
The 1st Sunday after Christmas (Or Holy Innocents)
Psalm 93 • John 1:1-18
Behold, the dwelling of God is with mankind; He will dwell with them and they shall be his people.
Almighty God, you have poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light,
enkindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Fifth Day – December 29th – Obedience
Feast of the Holy Innocents (transferred or kept on Sunday the 28th)
Psalm 124 • Matthew 2:13-18
We remember today, O God, the slaughter of the holy innocents of Bethlehem by King Herod. Receive, we pray, into the arms of your mercy all innocent victims; and by your great might frustrate the designs of evil tyrants and establish your rule of justice, love, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Come back tomorrow for Day 6.

Until next time.

WINTER SOLSTICE

I spent yesterday deep cleaning my house, purging it of physical items that no longer brought joy, cleared the space of negative energy, and ended with a lovely evening of good conversation, hot tea and twinkling lights illuminating the room.

Oh, how I love Winter Solstice.

How did you spend your day?

Until next time.

DECEMBER FAVORITES

(excuse the terrible lighting in the photo - clearly, I should not be snapping photos in the wee hours of the morning)

  1. The Honest Co. Apricot Kiss Bubble Bath – I love this scent for the little one – lots of big bubbles and leaves her skin soft. (The lavender is great too for winding down at the end of the day.)
  2. POM Wonderful® 100% Pomegranate Juice -  This juice is amazing and everyone is the household enjoys drinking it! A little sweet, a little tart, and a whole lot of healthy. Powered by pomegranate antioxidants, it’s authentic, delicious and 100% pure. There is no added sugar, colorants or cheap filler juices.
  3. It Works! Greens On The Go Nutritional Supplement – I never let myself run out of this stuff! I like the convenience of the packets to toss in my purse or briefcase. The orange flavor is my favorite, but the berry is good too!
  4. Starbucks Holiday Blend K-Cups 2016 Limited Edition – Each year I look forward to the holiday blend from Starbucks. This year is as tasty as always! From their site - Bright Latin American and smooth Indonesian coffees come together with an approachable complexity and elegant flavor - crafted just for the holidays. I could not agree more.
  5. My First Tervis Sippy Cup – I am a huge fan of Tervis drinkware, because they keep hot drinks hotter, cold drinks colder, is customizable, Made in America, backed by a Made for Life ™ guarantee and contains no Bisphenol A. I also like the fact I can attach a straw lid and the little one can keep using her snowman cup year after year! (They are having a 25% off sale today!!)

So, there you go my top 5 favorites for winter. What are your top favorite items?

Until next time.

MERRY CHRISTMAS MINT SPRAY

Hope the holiday season, however, you celebrate, has been full of great memories so far!

Today I want to share with you a great spray to mix up and have on hand this season. I think this would make a great stocking stuffer, hostess gift or a fabulous gift.

Take a dark glass spray bottle (I used an 8oz bottle) and add:

  • 1 oz pure Vodka – this helps mix the oils with the water and preserves the oils
  • 10 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 10 drops Sweet Orange essential oil
  • 10 drops Vanilla

finish up by adding pure distilled water to the bottle to almost full.

Close the lid and shake well.

Voila! Now you can spray Christmas cheer wherever you go!

Until next time.

SMALL GIFT SATURDAY GIFT IDEA #1

Congestion Relief Bath Soak or as I like to call it “I can’t adult today” bath soak. What an awesome handmade gift idea too!

This congestion relief bath salts recipe is a tried and true natural remedy at our house to give relief from colds, congestion and sinus pressure.

Illness hit our house hard the week before Thanksgiving and continued past the holiday. Days upon days of feeling miserable, this bath recipe has helped with the irritability and made life a bit more tolerable while cooped up inside. Even the little one took relief of soaking and playing in the bathtub with this mixture.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup Epsom salt - it’s probably used the most for its ability to reduce pain and inflammation. The reason it works so well at helping congestion and sinus pressure is that it reduces inflammation in the swollen, inflamed mucous membranes.
  • ½ cup baking soda – helps rid the body of toxins
  • 10-15 drops Eucalyptus essential oil  - can help open up and soothe the tissue in the respiratory system. It’s known to help relieve the symptoms associated with the flu, colds, congestion, sinus pressure, bronchitis and mucous membrane inflammation.
  • 5-10 drops Peppermint essential oil - helps clear up congestion while providing relief from cold headaches and sinus pain.

Optional:

  • ½ cup sea salt - is rich in minerals and helps the body release toxins. Make sure you use for unrefined sea salt.
  • 5-10 drops of Lavender essential oil - calms the body and mind, helping you to relax and sleep better (healing happens when your body is resting!)
  • Food coloring of choice (the food coloring will not stain your skin or the bathtub)

Combine ingredients in an airtight lidded jar. Add a scoop of the mixture to hot running water. Soak for 20 minutes, inhaling deeply. Repeat as needed.

Until next time.

HOLIDAY PUNCH

This must be my new favorite drink!

My family loves a good punch during the holidays. We tend to make it all throughout the holiday season.

This would be great served at brunch, lunch, with mid-day appetizers or at dinner (you can add your favorite alcohol for an adult beverage).

I keep a batch whipped up and stored in the refrigerator to sip on anytime we wish.

You will need:

  • 2-liter ginger ale
  • 8 oz Pom Pom pomegranate seeds
  • 1 small orange, unpeeled

Mix everything together, pour into your favorite cup and enjoy. Yes, it really is that easy.

Hope you enjoy!

Until next time.
