Wow am I late with the 12 Days of Christmas!
Good thing Christmas is a season that lasts until the Epiphany, January 6th!
Here is the catch up list from December 25th through today, December 29th.
First Day – December 25th – Love
The Nativity of Our Lord, Christmas Day
Psalm 98.1-6 • Matthew 1.18-25
O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we,
who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Second Day – December 26th – Forgiveness
Feast of St. Stephen
Psalm 31 • Matthew 23:34-39
We give you thanks, O Lord of glory, for the example of the first martyr Stephen, who looked up to heaven and prayed for his persecutors to your Son Jesus Christ, who stands at your right hand; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
Third Day – December 27th – Peace
Feast of St. John
Psalm 92 • 1 John 1:1-9 • John 21:19b-24
Shed upon your Church, O Lord, the brightness of your light, that we, being illumined by the teaching of
your apostle and evangelist John, may so walk in the light of your truth, that at length we may attain to the fullness of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Fourth Day – December 28th – Compassion
The 1st Sunday after Christmas (Or Holy Innocents)
Psalm 93 • John 1:1-18
Behold, the dwelling of God is with mankind; He will dwell with them and they shall be his people.
Almighty God, you have poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light,
enkindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Fifth Day – December 29th – Obedience
Feast of the Holy Innocents (transferred or kept on Sunday the 28th)
Psalm 124 • Matthew 2:13-18
We remember today, O God, the slaughter of the holy innocents of Bethlehem by King Herod. Receive, we pray, into the arms of your mercy all innocent victims; and by your great might frustrate the designs of evil tyrants and establish your rule of justice, love, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Come back tomorrow for Day 6.
Until next time.
